Azerbaijani judoka wins European Cup
Azerbaijani judoka Ibrahim Aliyev has won a gold medal at the Open Cup of Europe in judo in Istochno Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the competition in judo on May 20, six Azerbaijani athletes take to the tatami on the first day of competition, azersport.com reports.
Rovshan Aliyev (60 kg) defeated David Gauch (Switzerland), but lost to Marton Andrassy (Hungary) in the quarterfinals. In the consolation block, he beat Osher Soyonov (Israel), and Bart Weiling (Netherlands), but lost to David Nagy (Hungary) in the fight for bronze, becoming fifth.
Kamran Suleymanov (66 kg) lost to Lionel Schwander (Switzerland), but got the opportunity to move on to repechage bouts, where he defeated Petar Radovic (Montenegro), Aron Gabor (Hungary), Omer Man (Israel) and Andras Vidu (Hungary), winning bronze.
Tofig Aliyev (66 kg) lost to Andras Vid (Hungary), but also went to repechage matches. At this stage, he was able to defeat Pavel Krsmanovich (Serbia) and Michele Shiraldi (Italy), but then lost to Abdulla Ozcan (Turkey), becoming the seventh.
Ruslan Pashayev (66 kg) defeated Abdulla Ozkan (Türkiye), Johan Voit (Germany) and Andras Vida (Hungary), reaching the final. In the decisive fight, he defeated Lionel Schwander (Switzerland), becoming the champion.
Telman Valiyev (73 kg) defeated John Weizenegger (Switzerland), Jonathan Elbaz (Israel), Benz Boros (Hungary) and Emil Notebaert (France), reaching the final.
In the decisive fight, Valiyev met with his teammate Ibrahim Aliyev, who had previously defeated Uros Machar (Bosnia), Thomas Witzig (Switzerland), Daniel Szegedi (Hungary) and Khusnetdin Kerimov (Czech Republic).
Aliyev won the final, while Valiyev took silver.
