Azerbaijan's Shahdag mountain resort hosts first open skiing competition among Eurasian Alliance members

The Shahdag ski resort has hosted an alpine skiing competition for instructors and teams from Eurasian Alliance member countries within the framework of the II Eurasian Mountain Tourism Forum that is currently underway.

Around 50 skiers competed in the giant slalom discipline, Caliber.Az reports citing local media. 

The Open Championship aimed to foster sports cooperation, facilitate experience exchange, and boost interest in skiing and snowboarding.

The competing athletes were from the following mountain ski resorts: Shahdag (Azerbaijan), Amirsoy (Uzbekistan), Shymbulak and Oi-Qaragai (Kazakhstan), and Rosa Khutor (Russia). Rustam Najafov, Chairman of OJSC Shahdag Tourism Center, praised the successful event and expressed gratitude to the participants during the award ceremony.  

The outcome of the tournament is as follows:   Winners:   Women (Under 35):   Kristina Lisichenko (Rosa Khutor, Russia) Maria Sherstyuk (Shahdag, Azerbaijan) Ksenia Radionova (Shymbulak, Kazakhstan)  

Men (Under 35): Roman Ilyin (Rosa Khutor, Russia) Ilya Prokopyev (Rosa Khutor, Russia) Alexander Smirnov (Rosa Khutor, Russia)  

Women (35+):   Natalia Lapshina (Shymbulak, Kazakhstan) Tatyana Shamsutdinova (Shymbulak, Kazakhstan) Svetlana Ilyukhina (Shymbulak, Kazakhstan)  

Men (35+):   Artem Astapenko (Rosa Khutor, Russia) Alexander Pentyukhov (Rosa Khutor, Russia) Nurlan Abdulov (Shahdag, Azerbaijan)  

Demo Team Competition:   Rosa Khutor Shymbulak Oi-Qaragai   Overall Team Standings: 1.      Rosa Khutor (Russia) 2.      Shymbulak (Kazakhstan) 3.      Shahdag (Azerbaijan)  

This year's Eurasian Mountain Tourism Forum is held under the "Prospects and Opportunities of Mountain Tourism in Eurasia" theme and attended by agency officials and nearly 150 tourism representatives from mountain resorts of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and South Korea, which are members of the Alliance, as well as from Belarus, Georgia, and Kyrgyzstan.
