04 February 2025 12:51

The Formula 1 calendar for the upcoming season has been announced, with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix scheduled to take place from September 19 to 21, Caliber.Az reports.

Baku Grand Prix will feature an action-packed weekend, with the following timetable:

September 19
First session: 12:30 – 13:30
Second session (Sprint qualifying): 16:00 – 17:00

September 20
Third session (Sprint): 12:30 – 13:30
Fourth session (Qualifying): 16:00 – 17:00

September 21
Race: 14:00

The 2025 Formula 1 season will see 24 races, kicking off in Australia on March 16 and concluding in Abu Dhabi on December 7. Among the exciting updates for the season, six events will feature sprint races, including stops in China, Miami, Belgium, the USA (Austin), São Paulo, and Qatar.

To recall, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, a Formula One motor racing event, first took place in 2017 at the Baku City Circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is set to remain at this venue until at least 2026. The race initially appeared on the calendar as the 2016 European Grand Prix before being rebranded the following year.

In its inaugural year, Daniel Ricciardo claimed victory, marking his first win of the season. Over the years, the race has seen notable winners including Lewis Hamilton in 2018, Valtteri Bottas in 2019, and Max Verstappen in 2022.

The 2021 event was memorable for Sergio Pérez, who won after Max Verstappen suffered a tyre failure. The 2023 Grand Prix introduced a new format featuring a "sprint shootout" qualifying session, with Pérez becoming the first driver to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix twice, after also winning the sprint.

For 2024, the race was rescheduled to September, swapping places with the Japanese Grand Prix.
