04 October 2023 10:28

The Turkish Interior Ministry has identified the suicide bomber who carried out a terrorist attack near the Interior Ministry building in Ankara as a member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) banned in the republic.

The Turkish Interior Ministry announced this on its page on the social network X, Caliber.Az reports.

"As a result of DNA study, it was established that the second terrorist was Ozkan Shahin, a member of the separatist organization of the PKK," the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, it was also established that the other perpetrator of the attack was another PKK member Hasan Oguz.

The Interior Ministry added that the investigation and the fight against terrorism will continue.

At least one person was killed and two others were injured in a bombing attack outside the Turkish Interior Ministry building in Ankara on October 1.

The ministry said in a statement that two attackers murdered a civilian and stole his vehicle in the country’s capital ahead of the opening of parliament. Two police officers reportedly received non-life-threatening injuries.

The attackers arrived in a light commercial vehicle in front of the building’s entrance at about 09:30 local time. One assailant blew himself up and the other was “neutralised.”
