SOCAR prioritises achieving net zero emissions by 2050, says company’s president PHOTO

President of Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) Rovshan Najaf has said that achieving net zero emissions by 2050 is one of the company’s main goals.

Najaf made the remarks on December 3 at the event "Decarbonisation Strategy and Prospects for the Future of SOCAR" organised in Dubai within the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP28, Report informs.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev was the guest of honour at the event.

He spoke in detail about the work carried out in our country on environmental protection, restoration of ecological balance, programmes implemented.

Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, then provided information on SOCAR's environmental activities and goals related to emission reduction in the medium and long term.

According to him, achieving the goals of "zero methane", "zero emissions" (net Zero) by 2050, as well as reducing flare emissions in the production process is one of the main goals of SOCAR.

The company's chief emphasised that these steps are taken both in line with corporate social responsibility and to transform SOCAR into an exemplary energy company in terms of environmental protection.

During the event, a detailed presentation was made on the work done at SOCAR in the field of environmental protection, the projects being implemented, the goals outlined and further steps to achieve them, strategic goals in the application of green energy in oil and gas operations, decarbonisation and energy transition.

On the same day, an event was held on the implementation of the "Carbon Neutrality" concept in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions of Azerbaijan. Mukhtar Babayev and Rovshan Najaf spoke at the event.

During the speeches, information was presented on large-scale rehabilitation and reconstruction projects in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, and it was noted that ensuring carbon neutrality with the use of green energy, green agriculture and environmentally friendly technologies in these territories is one of the main goals.

Then a presentation was made on the potential of "green energy" in Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, projects implemented in this direction and future goals.
