Baku, Kathmandu go green: Nations eye joint renewable energy projects PHOTO
Azerbaijan and Nepal held their first-ever bilateral political consultations in Kathmandu, marking a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The consultations took place as part of a visit by a high-level Azerbaijani government delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, Caliber.Az reports, citing domestic media.
Nepal’s delegation was headed by Foreign Ministry Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. During the talks, both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening cooperation in the coming years and emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral ties.
The consultations focused on a wide range of issues, including the expansion of trade and investment, the development of tourism, cultural exchange, educational collaboration, and joint efforts to combat climate change. A key topic was enhancing cooperation in the fields of renewable and green energy.
Both sides highlighted the potential for partnership in green technologies and agreed to exchange best practices in the development of renewable energy. They discussed opportunities for joint projects in solar and wind energy, recognising the need to work together on sustainable development initiatives.
The talks also addressed simplifying procedures to encourage mutual investments and the importance of organising business forums in both countries to foster economic engagement.
According to Nepalese sources, the Azerbaijani delegation, led by Elnur Mammadov, is scheduled to meet with several high-ranking officials in Nepal, including President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister Sharma Oli.
The delegation will also participate in a roundtable discussion organised by Nepal’s Investment Board, aimed at exploring business and investment opportunities between the two countries.
In addition, Elnur Mammadov is expected to deliver a public lecture on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy at a special event attended by diplomats, students, and representatives of the business community.
The official visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Nepal is set to conclude on May 3.
