Azerbaijan eyes Türkiye's model to reshape agricultural land management

27 July 2026 18:55

Azerbaijan is drawing on Türkiye's experience as it moves to establish the country's first land consolidation mechanism, with two pilot projects set to be launched in partnership with the World Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture said on July 27.

According to local media, the pilot schemes will be implemented in the Gabala and Salyan districts under the State Programme for the Development of Agricultural Production and Processing, Fisheries and Aquaculture for 2026–2030.

A delegation from Türkiye, accompanied by specialists from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture, visited the proposed project sites to assess land conditions, irrigation infrastructure and local environmental factors.

The delegation also held consultations with representatives of local executive authorities, the State Service for Property Issues under the Ministry of Economy, the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency and other relevant institutions.

According to the ministry, an initial assessment found that selected areas in the Gabala and Salyan districts are suitable for launching Azerbaijan's first land consolidation projects. Drawing on Türkiye's experience, the two sides prepared and discussed a preliminary roadmap for implementation.

The cooperation is expected to support the adoption of international best practices, ensure the successful implementation of the pilot projects, and further strengthen Azerbaijan–Türkiye cooperation in the agricultural sector.
