Azerbaijan, UnionPay discuss expansion of QR code payments

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) and Chinese-based international payment system UnionPay have discussed the development of QR code-based payment solutions.

The CBA said the meeting took place between Deputy Chairman Vusal Khalilov and a UnionPay delegation led by Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Wang Lixin, who is visiting Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The sides reviewed initiatives outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year and assessed the implementation of ongoing joint projects.

They also exchanged views on prospects for developing Azerbaijan's digital payments ecosystem and expanding QR code-based payment solutions.

In addition, the meeting focused on strengthening the partnership and exploring opportunities for deeper cooperation and integration.
