Georgia's frozen fish imports from Azerbaijan increase ninefold

Georgia imported 78 tonnes of frozen fish worth $300,000 from Azerbaijan during the first half of 2026, marking a sharp increase compared with the same period last year, according to calculations based on data from Georgia's National Statistics Office.

The value of imports quadrupled year-on-year, while import volumes rose ninefold, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Overall, Georgia imported 8,661 tonnes of fish worth $29 million between January and June, representing a 25% increase in value despite a 2% decline in volume compared with the first six months of 2025.

Chile was Georgia's largest fish supplier during the reporting period, exporting 959 tonnes valued at $6.2 million.

Iceland followed with 936 tonnes worth $3.2 million, while imports from the United States totalled 1,089 tonnes valued at $2.99 million.

Georgia also purchased 554 tonnes of fish worth $2.35 million from Norway and 384 tonnes valued at $1.43 million from Denmark.
