Moody's reaffirms credit rating of Azerbaijan’s SOCAR at Baa3

27 July 2026 18:14

Moody's has reaffirmed the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR)'s long-term issuer credit rating at Baa3 with a stable outlook, maintaining the investment-grade status the company first secured in 2025.

According to SOCAR, the decision reflects the company's financial resilience, solid credit profile and reputation as a reliable borrower in international capital markets, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

It also recognises SOCAR's long-term financial discipline, prudent fiscal management and ongoing efforts to support sustainable growth.

In its assessment, Moody's cited SOCAR's strategic importance to Azerbaijan's economy and energy sector, its integrated business model, strong financial performance and robust credit metrics as the key factors underpinning the rating.

The agency's decision comes amid continued uncertainty in the global economy, volatility in international financial markets and persistent geopolitical tensions that have contributed to fluctuations in energy prices. Despite these challenges, the reaffirmation underscores SOCAR's strong financial position, effective risk management and long-term growth prospects.

Maintaining an investment-grade credit rating is expected to strengthen investor confidence, support deeper cooperation with international financial institutions and broaden the company's access to financing, while reinforcing its standing in global capital markets.

SOCAR said it has continued to enhance its corporate governance framework, improve financial reporting and transparency, strengthen risk management practices and preserve financial stability in recent years.

The company received its first investment-grade Baa3 rating from Moody's in 2025.

In addition to Moody's rating, SOCAR currently holds a BBB- (Stable) long-term issuer rating from Fitch Ratings and a BB (Positive) long-term issuer rating from S&P Global Ratings.
