Azerbaijan deepens energy ties with Türkiye, Iraq, Syria, and Somalia PHOTO

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov conducted several high-level meetings during his participation in the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit, according to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy.

He met with Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad Al-Bashir, and Somali Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Dahir Shire Mohamed, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Azerbaijan–Türkiye cooperation in energy highlighted

In the meeting with Turkish Energy Minister Bayraktar, both sides expressed satisfaction with the broad and systematic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye across the oil and gas, electricity, and renewable energy sectors. They emphasised the importance of transferring 250 MW of electricity to Türkiye via Georgia and reviewed the progress of the "Green Energy Corridor" involving Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria, along with other joint energy projects.

They also discussed the upcoming 4th Azerbaijan–Türkiye Energy Forum scheduled for September in Izmir, and confirmed the Turkish minister’s participation in the “Baku Energy Week” this June.

Deepening ties with Iraq in oil and gas

In his meeting with Iraqi Deputy PM and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, the two sides acknowledged the historical ties between their nations as a foundation for expanding energy cooperation. They exchanged views on current oil market regulation under the OPEC+ format and underlined the importance of signing a "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Oil of the Republic of Iraq on Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Sector." Priority projects to advance bilateral energy ties were also discussed.

Exploring new horizons with Somalia

Shahbazov also held talks with Somali Minister Dahir Shire Mohamed, focusing on the implementation of memoranda of understanding in the areas of green energy and oil and gas. Discussions included training specialists in the petroleum sector and exploring potential new areas for cooperation.

Energy dialogue with Syria

During the summit, Shahbazov met with Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad Al-Bashir. The two sides evaluated opportunities for developing bilateral cooperation in the energy field.
