Azerbaijan to spend $500 million to connect railway line on border with Iran Iranian ambassador says
Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Seyed Abbas Mousavi has said that Iran intends to comprehensively develop relations with Azerbaijan and implement the agreement on the Araz Road Corridor.
“Currently, we are observing a new Caucasus, and in new conditions, when the South Caucasus is becoming a transit space for world trade, Iran must play an active role,” Mousavi told Iranian media on December 4, Trend reports.
The envoy mentioned that the agreement on the creation of the Araz Road Corridor between Iran and Azerbaijan in this direction is a very important aspect.
“Iran is committed to implementing this agreement at the national and international levels. The Araz Road Corridor is supported by both countries. Recently, Azerbaijan allocated funds for the construction of the Agband-Kalala bridge on the Azerbaijan-Iran border in the amount of 8 million US dollars. At the same time, in the future, Azerbaijan will spend $500 million to connect the railways of the two countries from the Agband direction,” the ambassador emphasized.
Mousavi noted that after the complete liberation of Karabakh, Azerbaijan puts forward various ideas for establishing peace in the South Caucasus.
“Meanwhile, Western countries tried to distance Iran from the processes in this region, based on their erroneous ideas,” the ambassador added.
