President Aliyev: Azerbaijan - reliable partner, always loyal to traditions of friendship

Azerbaijan is, in the truest sense of the word, a reliable partner, always loyal to the traditions of friendship, and highly values friendship, said President Ilham Aliyev as he addressed the inauguration ceremony of the Serbia-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector.

“It is relations built on friendship, mutual understanding, and strategic partnership that ensure the interests of many countries. Cooperation in the field of gas also establishes a strong foundation for large-scale regional cooperation,” the head of state added, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azertag.

Speaking about Azerbaijan’s gas exports, President Aliyev said: “Our gas export to Europe was slightly more than 8 billion cubic meters in 2021. This year, it will reach about 12 billion cubic meters.”

Highlighting that this accounts for 50 per cent of Azerbaijan's total gas export, the head of state expressed the ambition for the volume of gas sent to Europe to double by 2027.

“We are confidently moving towards this goal,” the president added.

The president went on to say: “Azerbaijan is successfully executing its comprehensive energy strategy. The projects proposed and executed on our part have significantly reshaped the energy map of Eurasia.”

Currently, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Supsa oil pipelines are shipping Azerbaijani oil to the markets of the Caspian and Black Seas. The Southern Gas Corridor, with a length of 3500 kilometres, is a gigantic infrastructure project that makes a significant contribution to Europe's energy security.

Moreover, in his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the Serbia-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector, President Aliyev provided information about the country’s future plans in the energy sector.

“Our future plans undoubtedly include expanding the geographical reach of gas supply. In the future, our primary objective is to access new markets through the establishment of new interconnectors in Europe, with a major target related to renewable energy resources. Azerbaijan has already signed agreements and memoranda of understanding with investors for the creation of 10 gigawatts of renewable energy sources,” the head of state pointed out.
