Envoy: Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector strategically important for EU

EU Ambassador to Serbia Emanuele Gioffre has said that the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector is of strategic importance for the EU.

Gioffre made these remarks at the launch ceremony of the Bulgaria-Serbia gas interconnector in Serbia’s Nis city, Trend reports.

“I would like to thank everyone who has worked in this sphere and the EU for working hard to make this possible,” he said.

Gioffre noted that the EU has stepped up support for Serbia, allocating $65 million to help the most vulnerable layers of population and reduce the cost of energy bills.

“This is part of a $1 billion support for the energy sector over the last 20 years because Serbia is a candidate to join the EU,” he said.

Gioffre noted that Serbia's new growth plan will provide more opportunities for reform and additional financing.
