Swedish defence chief calls people for preparations for war
Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin warned that Sweden could go to war.
In his speech at the National Conference held at the Salen military base in the Dalarna region, the minister said that Russia's threats should be taken seriously, Anadolu reports.
“War may break out in Sweden, and our people must be prepared for it,” he stressed.
Recalling the fact that Sweden has not been at war for 210 years, Bohlin added: “As a result of Russia's attack on Ukraine, the already poor security situation in Europe has worsened. Russia's rapid rearmament must be taken very seriously. For almost 210 years, peace has been a welcome companion to the Swedish people. But today everything has changed and the security situation has worsened. As the responsible minister, it is my responsibility to explain this to the Swedish people."
He said that the Swedish government is trying to improve the country's defence capability by creating awareness in people's minds that the country could go to war. In his opinion, Ukraine’s resistance against Russia can be shown as an example.
