Polish PM calls for continued sanctions on Russia
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has voiced doubts over Russia’s willingness to engage in genuine peace negotiations, urging continued international pressure, including sanctions, to compel Moscow to act.
Speaking after a meeting of the so-called “coalition of the willing” in Paris, Tusk said all participants were prepared to apply pressure on Russia, including imposing restrictions if necessary, to ensure it takes the pursuit of peace seriously, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Poland is not naively optimistic about Russia’s position. I remain very sceptical about Russia’s good intentions,” he said.
Tusk added that if Moscow fails to demonstrate good faith, international pressure would need to be “doubled” to secure meaningful engagement.
Prior to this, US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff described “significant progress” following the meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” in Paris.
"Earlier, we have made significant progress on several critical workstreams, including our bilateral security guarantee framework and a prosperity plan. The Coalition also released a statement outlining its framework to a security guarantee," he wrote on X.
Witkoff said that they agree with the coalition that durable security guarantees and robust prosperity commitments are essential to a lasting peace in Ukraine, and that they will continue to work together on this effort.
