30 Nobel laureates sign declaration on peace
Thousands took part in a worldwide meeting in the Vatican on universal brotherhood called "Not Alone."
The event, held on June 10, in St. Peter's Square, was also attended by 30 Nobel laureates, who signed a declaration calling for world peace and solidarity, DW reports.
"Let armed conflicts cease. We say: no more nuclear weapons and mines. No more expulsions, ethnic cleansing, dictatorships, corruption and slavery," the document reads.
It was signed by former Polish President Lech Walesa, former presidents of Colombia and Costa Rica Juan Manuel Santos and Oscar Arias Sanchez, among others.
The declaration was read to the crowd in the square by Nadia Murad, winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to combat sexual violence in Iraq. She called for an end to sexual violence and armed conflict.
"No more war," Murad declared, "peace, justice, equality will determine the destiny of humanity.
