Aftershock activity, volcanic unrest continue in Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula
Seismic activity continues in Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula following a powerful earthquake that struck the region on July 30. Over the past 24 hours, scientists have recorded 32 aftershocks, according to the regional branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM).
The ministry reported that the aftershocks ranged in magnitude from 3.8 to 5.5, and that tremors were felt in populated areas on four occasions, with intensities reaching up to two points on the local scale, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Authorities also noted ongoing volcanic activity in several of Kamchatka’s active volcanoes, including Bezymianny, Shiveluch, Klyuchevskoy, Karymsky, and Krasheninnikov. Residents and tourists in the region have been strongly advised to avoid these areas due to potential hazards.
Additionally, officials confirmed that the road connecting Cape Levashova and the village of Oktyabrsky in the Ust-Bolsheretsky District remains closed as a safety precaution.
