Aircraft engine catches fire during takeoff at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport PHOTO/VIDEO

A Nordwind Airlines Boeing passenger aircraft experienced an engine fire during takeoff at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport, forcing the crew to make an emergency landing.

The flight was scheduled to depart at around 7:00 a.m. local time for Cayo Coco, Cuba. Witnesses saw a bright flash from the aircraft’s right engine as the plane lifted off the runway, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media. 

The plane landed and applied emergency braking at high speed. 

Firefighters and emergency rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and began responding to the incident.
