American journalists visit Guba District
Within their visit to Azerbaijan, a group of American journalists and media representatives went on a business trip to Guba District.
According to the program, the guests got acquainted with the Six-Dome Synagogue of the Red Settlement (Girmizi Gasaba), where mountain Jews live compactly, and the History-Ethnography Museum of the World Mountain Jews.
It has been brought to their attention that a large number of minorities live in Guba, and Red Settlement is the second unique place in the world where Jews are compactly populated.
It has been mentioned that the Jewish population of the settlement called "Jerusalem of the Caucasus" has preserved their traditions for many years and live in peace and tranquillity with the Azerbaijanis.
It was pointed out that mountain Jews took active part both in the First and Second Karabakh wars and fought for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The heroism of Albert Agarunov was specially highlighted. It was emphasized that the memory of Albert Agarunov was perpetuated in Azerbaijan.
During their visit to the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex, the guests were given detailed information about the genocide committed by Armenians against our people in March-April 1918. It was reported that the mass grave was discovered on April 1, 2007, during earthworks in the area and the researches carried out by the staff of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has established that the victims of the genocide committed by the Armenian armed groups in 1918 were massively buried here.
The Guba Genocide Memorial Complex was launched with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on September 18, 2013.
The guests were impressed by what they have seen and expressed their disappointment.
The delegation included Azerbaijani journalist Vusala Abbasova, student of Yale University and reporter of US bureau of the Report Information Agency, Afram Kosafi, head of the UN bureau of Arab News, former representative of the world’s leading media organizations in the conflict regions of Afghanistan, Iraq and South Lebanon (who worked for many years as a war correspondent (Fox TV, CNN, Al Jazeera), Paola Vargas, New York and Washington correspondent of the well-known television network of the Republic of Colombia (Caracol TV and Canal) famous blog writer, Paolo von Shirac, founder and chief of Schirach Report Selcuk Acar, photojournalist of the US bureau of Anadolu Agency, founder of Turkish Journal and Calvin Dark, president of RC Communications, well-known journalist and political commentator.
