Amman expresses support for Azerbaijan’s peace initiatives
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Jordan has highlighted the strong ties between Baku and Amman, praising the kingdom’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement released on September 16, the embassy noted that Jordan’s King Abdullah II personally congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the signing of the peace agreement in the United States. The gesture was described as a reflection of the robust bilateral relationship and Jordan’s commitment to fostering peace in the region, Caliber.Az reports via Jordanian state-run Petra news agency.
The embassy underscored the significance of the newly established Jordanian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary friendship group as a milestone in bilateral cooperation. It also highlighted Azerbaijan’s extensive efforts to rebuild Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, including projects in infrastructure, energy, transport, and aviation, alongside the “Great Return” programme, which aims to facilitate the repatriation of displaced persons.
The statement stressed that the peace agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia, reached in August 2025 under the auspices of the United States, represent a historic step toward regional stability and open new opportunities for cooperation and development. It reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s dedication to peace, justice, and collaboration in both regional and international relations.
These comments follow major diplomatic developments at the Washington summit hosted by US President Donald Trump, where Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration establishing a seven-point framework. This framework emphasises the respect for sovereignty, the recognition of territorial integrity, and the renunciation of the use of force.
Additionally, the foreign ministers of both countries initialled a draft “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations” in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
A key component of this framework is the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), also known as the Zangezur Corridor. This planned transit route through southern Armenia is intended to connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave and carries both strategic and economic significance for the broader region.
