Analyst: Armenia is under foreign rule

22 February 2024 10:16

Speaking to Armenian media, analyst Vardan Hakobyan commented on the ambivalent policy pursued by the Armenian leadership, which led the country to lose all its allies.

"In 2010-2013, the world situation changed and pressure on Armenia increased both from the West and Russia. Armenia had to make a lot of concessions on many issues. The Russians and the West put forward their versions," he said, according to Caliber.Az.

"And in 2018, a colour revolution was planned in order to change the foreign policy of Armenia, just like what happened in Ukraine. The policy has been changed to such an extent that now it is difficult to understand what is happening in the region and Armenia's foreign relations. The goal is the same: get rid of Russia and Russian military bases. And over the past six years, the authorities have been moving towards this goal step by step. Quite simply, if Armenia is going to pursue an anti-Russian foreign policy, then it is not clear what is the point of developing relations with Iran or India," Hakobyan noted.

"We see that Armenia is becoming a non-aligned state. Formally, there are alliances: CIS, and CSTO, but in practice, steps are being taken against them. Since 2017, Western pressure on Armenia has increased, and since 2018, the ties that Armenia had already acquired in international relations have started to weaken. In my opinion, the Armenian authorities do not know what they are doing, they are just following certain instructions from outside. This is the foreign policy of a misguided government, as a result of which Armenia has become a battleground for many foreign interests. So far, these authorities have no foreign policy concept, they make statements under the influence of the moment, and they say whatever comes into their heads. Our nation has become useless to anyone, we have no leader who pursues the interests of the people. If this continues, Armenia will become a territory under foreign rule, worse than during the Soviet Union," the expert said.
