ANAMA hosts Belgian delegation to discuss mine action cooperation PHOTO
A meeting was held at the Azerbaijan Republic's Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) with Jeroen Cooreman, Director-General for Bilateral Relations at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Philippe Benoit from the Central Asia, Eastern and Southern Europe Department.
Belgian diplomats were briefed on the existing issues related to mines and unexploded ordnance in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as the ongoing efforts to address these challenges, ANAMA told Caliber.Az.
During the meeting, there was a discussion about Belgium's support for humanitarian demining activities in Azerbaijan and the prospects for further cooperation in this area.
Notably, the meeting also included the ambassadors of Azerbaijan to Belgium and Belgium to Azerbaijan.
Notably, ANAMA's ongoing efforts reflect Azerbaijan's commitment to post-conflict reconstruction and humanitarian relief in the regions affected by the conflict.
Land mines intentionally planted by Armenia during the occupation of Karabakh are reportedly aimed at causing harm to civilians and hindering the return of displaced individuals, thus posing a significant security risk to the area.
In response to this threat, a comprehensive demining initiative has been launched, involving collaborative efforts from various agencies, including the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Service. These organizations are working diligently to ensure the safety of the liberated territories, facilitating the safe return of civilians and enabling them to resume their normal lives.
