Ankara and Moscow review energy ties, focus on Akkuyu NPP

Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar held talks in Moscow with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on bilateral energy cooperation, including natural gas supplies and progress on the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project.

In a post on X, Bayraktar said the two sides had conducted a comprehensive review of their shared energy agenda. “In Moscow, I met with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, and we comprehensively discussed the energy agenda of Türkiye and Russia. We reviewed our cooperation in the field of natural gas and the progress achieved in the Akkuyu nuclear power plant construction project,” he said.

The discussions also covered prospects for expanding cooperation beyond existing initiatives. “We exchanged views on the further development of existing projects and the addition of new areas of cooperation to our common agenda. In the coming period, we will continue to focus on developing a new energy dialogue that responds to changing global dynamics and creates mutual benefit,” Bayraktar added.

The Akkuyu facility, Türkiye’s first nuclear power plant, remains a flagship project in energy cooperation between Ankara and Moscow.
