Ankara may propose "no-strike" corridors for Russian, Ukrainian ships

11 August 2026 18:15

Türkiye may put forward an initiative to establish two separate security corridors in the Black Sea for vessels traveling to Russia and Ukraine.

Under the reported proposal, the corridors would be designed to facilitate safer maritime traffic, with both sides of the conflict potentially committing not to launch attacks within the designated routes, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Ankara could also consider additional measures to improve maritime security, including restricting local fishermen from operating beyond Türkiye’s territorial waters in the Black Sea.

Turkish authorities have not yet officially commented on the report.

Sources in Türkiye’s business community noted that the proposal to establish security corridors would be consistent with Ankara’s broader efforts to ensure the safety of navigation in the Black Sea.
