Armed man detained after shooting incident on Russian commuter train

Russian transport police have detained a man accused of opening fire aboard a commuter train and declaring that he was taking passengers hostage, Telegram channel Typichniy Sochi reports.

The incident reportedly took place on a “Lastochka” electric train traveling from Imeretinsky Kurort toward Kavkazskaya and Maykop in southern Russia.

Eyewitnesses said a heavily intoxicated man entered one of the train cars carrying a weapon. He allegedly fired a shot into the ceiling before loudly announcing that he was taking control of the carriage.

Transport police officers later detained the suspect. According to reports, officers were forced to use their service weapons during the operation.
