Armenia democratic state only for PM Pashinyan, says pundit
Armenian political analyst Suren Surenyan has said that Armenia is a democratic country only for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s limited brain and in the flattering speeches of Europeans.
Surenyan made the remarks, commenting on Pashinyan’s speech at a meeting on assessments of international reports on Armenia and the ways to further improve the country's stance, which took place in Yerevan on April 5, Caliber.Az reports, quoting Armenian media.
However, the parliament speaker Alen Simonyan’s behaviour reveals the true nature of authoritarian Armenia, Surenyan noted.
The political analyst said Pashinyan stressed the importance of constantly improving the country's reputation in these reports.
The Armenian prime minister does not realise that remarks and rhetoric alone cannot improve the country's image and authority if the government and its elite are leading the state towards irreversible authoritarianism and the creation
of a corruption pyramid.
“The West may pretend to believe in Pashinyan’s democracy and anti-corruption aspirations, but this is just a dry political calculation that the current Armenian government can still be used against Russia,” he said.
According to the pundit, as soon as Western states finally realise that Pashinyan will “throw” them too, they will immediately remember Simonyan’s “spitting”, and about the defence minister Suren Papikyan’s “own appetite”, and about Pashinyan’s “hammer”.
“When the "consensus minus Alen" was formed in the country, and only Nicol was left beside the latter, the countdown to the resignation of the de facto prime minister began," the Armenian political analyst writes.
