Armenia reviews extradition of Russian citizen detained over alleged computer fraud

20 July 2026 15:00

Armenia is reviewing documents related to the possible extradition of Russian citizen Alexander Ermakov, who was detained in Yerevan at the request of foreign authorities in connection with a computer fraud case, the Armenian Ministry of Justice said.

Ministry spokesperson Mariam Melkumyan told TASS that authorities were examining the extradition documents when asked about reports that Ermakov could be sent to the United States under an international warrant. She did not provide further details.

Ermakov was reportedly detained at Yerevan’s airport in late June and has since been held in pretrial detention.

Russian Telegram channels, citing the detainee’s relatives, have claimed that he may have been mistaken for another Russian national with the same first name who is wanted by Interpol at the request of the United States. The two men reportedly have different patronymics.
