Armenia’s ex-defence chief stands trial in Yerevan

On May 8, Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court began hearing a criminal case against former Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan.

Along with Ohanyan, the ex-commander of an Armenian Defence Ministry military unit, Grigoriy Khachaturov, and 11 others stand trial, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

In several episodes, Ohanyan is accused of embezzling large sums of money and abusing official power. On February 8, the National Assembly agreed to initiate criminal prosecution against Ohanyan based on the Prosecutor-General's petitions.

Khachaturov is charged with legalizing especially large real estate acquired by criminal means (money laundering) and abusing his official position.
