Kazakhstan launches investor visa offering long-term residency
Kazakhstan is poised to introduce a new investor visa programme that will grant foreign nationals the opportunity to obtain residence status in the country.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry officially announced the policy, which is set to take effect in 10 days. Under the new initiative, investors who commit at least $300,000 to local companies’ authorised capital or to issued securities will qualify for the so-called “golden” visa, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Applications for the visa can be submitted remotely, offering convenience for international investors. Those who wish to extend their stay can also apply for a 10-year residence permit.
The foreign ministry stressed, “The issuance of ‘golden visas’ creates a favourable and predictable environment for foreign investors, offering legal safeguards and reinforcing confidence in Kazakhstan’s investment climate.”
The ministry also noted that similar programmes are already in place in the US, the UAE, Singapore, and several European countries. Russia has also implemented a simplified residency programme for investors since 2023.
Kazakhstan first began considering the introduction of an investor visa several years ago, Forbes Kazakhstan noted. Back in 2018, proposals were made to offer foreign nationals residency in exchange for investments ranging from $100,000 to $200,000 in real estate or securities. In a separate effort to attract international talent, Kazakhstan introduced the Neo Nomad visa in November 2024.
This visa targets foreign remote workers employed by overseas companies and allows them to reside in Kazakhstan for up to one year. Meanwhile, neighbouring Uzbekistan is also set to launch its own golden visa programme starting July 1. To qualify, foreign nationals must invest $200,000, plus an additional $100,000 for each accompanying family member.
