Türkiye optimistic about delivering promising results from Black Sea exploration sites in May
Türkiye's energy minister has hinted that "good news" about ongoing Black Sea exploration efforts could be revealed within the next month.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar was speaking at the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit on May 3, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media, when he commented on the progress at several ongoing Black Sea projects.
Speaking on natural gas extractions, the minister clarified that "three of our ships are working in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea to increase production. We may share good news in the Black Sea this month."
Türkiye discovered a major natural gas reserve in the Black Sea in 2020, estimated to hold 540 billion cubic meters, marking its largest find to date.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan underscored the importance of the discovery and stated on Friday that the country aims to boost daily output at the Sakarya offshore field to 40 million cubic meters by 2028. The anticipated announcement could mark another step in expanding Türkiye's energy capabilities in the region.
According to the minister, exploration efforts for oil are continuing in Gabar, Şırnak and Diyarbakır, highlighting that 41 million barrels were already added to the country's production levels, out of which 58% came from the fields in Diyarbakır.
