Early morning earthquake rattles northeastern Iran, minor injuries reported
A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Iran's Razavi Khorasan province early on May 1, injuring two people.
The tremor, recorded at 4:40 am local time, occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Initial seismic data suggests that the earthquake did not cause significant damage but was likely felt as light vibrations by residents in the vicinity of the epicentre.
Masoud Yaveri, General Director of the Razavi Khorasan Province Emergency Management Authority, confirmed that the tremors, recorded at 5:10 am in the Roshthar district, were also felt in Mashhad and surrounding settlements.
The two injured individuals were promptly transported to a medical centre for treatment.
