Russian oil refinery in Rostov region halts operations after strike

The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia’s Rostov region sustained damage during an overnight attack and has suspended operations, Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar said on Monday, August 24.

The governor did not provide further details on the extent of the damage or specify how long the refinery would remain offline.

The Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant is the only operating oil refinery in the Rostov region. The facility specialises in producing fuel oil, heating oil, marine fuel, diesel, and straight-run gasoline.

The refinery is also the largest supplier of petroleum products in southern Russia.

Russian authorities have blamed Ukraine for the overnight attack on the Rostov region. Kyiv has not commented on the reported strike.
