Armenia's ruling party lawmakers demand return of Journalists’ Union property
Sisak Gabrielyan, a member of the Armenian Parliament from the ruling Civil Contract party, and the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, are calling for the building of the Armenian Journalists’ Union to be returned to state ownership.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, Gabrielyan, a former journalist and current MP from the Civil Contract faction, reported the development on social media.
He stated that the Prosecutor’s Office has initiated proceedings based on requests submitted by both Speaker Alen Simonyan and himself.
The building, covering 2,400 square meters and valued at $3–5 million, is located in central Yerevan.
Gabrielyan claims that it ended up under the control of various individuals and organisations through illegal procedures.
The oversight authority has filed a report on the matter with the Anti-Corruption Committee, and the Administrative Court is expected to review the question of returning the building to state ownership in the near future.
