Armenia seeks Eurasian Economic Commission ruling on Russian trade barriers

A meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) will be held in October, during which a decision is expected on Russian restrictions affecting Armenian products, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said.

He said Armenia had appealed to the EEC, asking it to recognise Russia’s restrictions on the access of Armenian products to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) market as a trade barrier and have them removed.

“We believe that this constitutes an obstacle created by one country against another. Under the EAEU regulations, if one country applies such measures against another, the latter may appeal to the EEC. If the Commission recognises what is happening as a barrier, that state must remove the obstacles within 30 days,” the minister explained.
