Armenia to fund rail links to Azerbaijan, Türkiye, says Pashinyan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the reconstruction of railway sections in Armenia will be financed with state funds.
Following the government’s new program, Pashinyan was asked whether the decision to reconstruct the Yeraskh-Nakhchivan and Akhurik-Türkiye border sections meant that the Russian side had definitively rejected Armenia’s request regarding the matter, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“This does not mean that the Russian side has refused to participate or has been excluded. This only means that the construction in question will be carried out on the account of Armenia’s state budget. The [Armenian] government undertakes the financing and implementation of specific sections of the infrastructure on its territory,” the Armenian PM explained.
Pashinyan first raised the issue of the Russian concession agreement concerning Armenia’s railway in the context of repairing sections leading to Azerbaijan and Türkiye in December 2025.
Later, in May, he said the Armenian government would take responsibility for reconstructing the railway sections, and subsequently proposed that Russia reconsider its management of Armenia’s railway.
