Armenia urges media restraint after serviceman killed in explosion

The Armenian Ministry of Defence has urged media outlets to refrain from publishing unverified information and premature conclusions regarding an explosion that resulted in the death of a serviceman.

The ministry said investigations into such incidents are still ongoing, while some outlets publish details and conclusions only hours after an incident occurs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“We urge media outlets to comply with information security rules, refrain from disseminating unverified information and premature conclusions, and be guided by the best interests of the serviceman’s family when preparing reports,” the ministry said.

Earlier, Armenian Defence Ministry spokesperson Aram Torosyan said that on September 24, “under circumstances that have not yet been established, a contract serviceman identified as D.K. was killed as a result of an explosion.”
