Armenian authorities detain supporters of opposition party
Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee has detained several supporters of the opposition Prosperous Armenia party as part of an investigation into alleged voter bribery.
Investigators allege that residents of the town of Akhtala and nearby communities were offered money in exchange for supporting the party and recruiting additional supporters, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
The party is led by Gagik Tsarukyan, one of Armenia’s most prominent opposition figures and a former member of parliament.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, authorities have opened criminal proceedings and released audio recordings that investigators say support the allegations. The recordings were made public as part of the ongoing investigation.
