Armenian Deputy PM: Postponed Baku-Yerevan talks in US could take place soon

09 June 2023 13:47

Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan believes that postponed Washington talks between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia may take place in the near future.

He made the remark while speaking to the Armenian media outlets, Caliber.Az reported.

Earlier it was reported that the next round of discussions between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan scheduled for next week in Washington had been postponed.

Asked whether Baku had responded to Yerevan's proposals for a peace deal, Khachatryan said it was a working process and the sides were exchanging views.

"There is no need to dwell on it. The most important thing is that the sides have recorded a convergence of positions during their recent discussions," an Armenian top official told reporters.

In response to a clarifying question whether the Armenian side has received a response, the deputy prime minister said, "I am sure the Armenian side has received proposals at some stage."

As for the latest proposals, he recommended addressing the issue with the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

"I cannot add anything. Official information is provided by the Foreign Ministry," Khachatryan concluded.

The previous ministerial talks in Washington lasted four days (1-4 May). The ministers met twice with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. After the talks, the US Secretary of State said that Armenia and Azerbaijan had made significant progress towards signing a peace agreement.
