Armenian FM set to visit Russia soon
Spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan has said that Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan is planning to visit Russia.
Mirzoyan’s visit had been scheduled two months ago, Badalyan told TASS, Caliber.Az reports.
Relations between Armenia and Russia are far from simple, yet dialogue persists, with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan expected to visit Moscow soon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier.
"My Armenian counterpart has accepted our invitation, and his visit to Moscow is scheduled in the near future," Lavrov confirmed, speaking on the dynamics of the bilateral relationship.
Lavrov also addressed Armenia's recent decision to initiate the process of joining the European Union, a move that has sparked discussions regarding its compatibility with membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Echoing the views of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, Lavrov remarked, "These are two different systems, different free trade zones. But this is Yerevan's sovereign right. However, it is also the responsibility of the Armenian government to weigh the pros and cons."
The Russian foreign minister further touched on Armenia's current stance within the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO). While Armenia has refrained from participating in CSTO events, Lavrov acknowledged Yerevan's cooperative approach in not obstructing decision-making within the organisation.
