Armenian MP accuses opposition in clashes in Yerevan
In Armenia, the ruling Civil Contract party accused opposition leaders of provoking yesterday's clashes.
The secretary of the parliamentary faction of Pashinyan's "Civil Contract" Artur Hovhannisyan said on Facebook that the clash between the demonstrators and the police "was a clear provocation on the part of the organizers of the action," Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media. He stated that the opposition and personally Nationalist Dashnak party member Ishkhan Saghatelyan bear all responsibility for what happened.
According to Vahagn Aleksanyan, deputy of the ruling faction, after Saghatelyan’s call “let the women and children step aside, there are no closed streets in front of us, we are going to the National Assembly,” the demonstrators began to push, beat, throw stones and other objects in the direction of the police.
“Ishkhan Saghatelyan and other opposition leaders bear full responsibility for what happened,” the MP said.
Earlier, one of the leaders of the Armenian opposition, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, accused the police of provoking clashes with demonstrators on the evening of June 3.
