Armenian parliament speaker praises Iran’s support for his country’s territorial integrity Denies anti-Russian sentiments
In a briefing, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan expressed gratitude for Iran’s supportive stance on Armenia’s territorial integrity amid ongoing tensions with Azerbaijan.
Simonyan welcomed the Iranian authorities' condemnation of any violations of Armenia’s sovereignty, highlighting the significance of regional solidarity in the face of potential aggression, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Simonyan emphasized that Armenia remains vigilant, operating under the premise that attacks could occur at any time.
"We appreciate Iran's statements and concerns," he remarked. "We always live with the logic that attacks on Armenia are possible."
In a separate statement, Simonyan addressed concerns about Armenia's relations with Russia, asserting that his country is not engaging in an anti-Russian campaign.
"We are not conducting any anti-Russian campaign. If I defend myself after being attacked, does that make it a campaign against me?" he questioned, in response to allegations of his anti-Russian rhetoric.
This clarification comes amidst ongoing scrutiny of Simonyan’s remarks, which some interpret as critical of Russia.
