Armenian people did not allow “dragon” to return, mayor says PHOTO
Armenian Mayor Tigran Avinyan has stated that the Armenian people had prevented the "dragon" from returning, an apparent reference to recent political developments and attempts to challenge the government's authority.
Delivering a speech at a ceremony marking the reinstallation of the Vahagn the Dragon-Slayer statue near City Hall in the Armenian capital, he said the dragon in Armenian historical memory symbolises more than a mythical creature, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“The dragon in our historical memory is not merely a mythical monster. The dragon is a threat that returns at different times and in different forms: as fear, revanchism, chaos, and attempts to weaken the state,” the Yerevan mayor noted.
He noted that recently the dragon tried to return once again, but through their vote, the Armenian people demonstrated that “power in the Republic of Armenia belongs to the people, and there is no authority higher than the will of the people.”
