Armenian PM expected to visit Russia soon, Kremlin says

The date of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Russia has not yet been agreed upon, but there is an understanding that the trip will take place in the near future, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated.

Speaking to reporters, he noted that Russia respects all of Armenia’s sovereign rights, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“The date has not yet been agreed. There is an understanding and an agreement that such a visit will take place in the near future. Indeed, we respect all of Armenia’s sovereign rights, but at the same time, it is a participant in the integration process of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU),” Peskov stressed.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, Armenia’s transition to other standards could conflict with the norms of the EAEU.

Peskov said this was why Moscow was stressing the need for Armenia to determine its future course of integration.

“Shifting to other standards will not correlate with EAEU standards. This is what we mean when we say that it is important to make a choice so that an EAEU member state does not come into conflict with the principles of an important integration association for all of us,” he added.
