Armenian political strategist: EU's threats to sanction Azerbaijan are idle talk
Political technologist Vigen Hakobyan said in an interview with Armenian media that the EU's threats to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan are empty words, a way to please the Armenian public.
"Armenians are not a political nation, they are like women who love with their ears. It seems to me that the Armenian people are more feminine by nature, they love with their ears, not with their intellect," he is quoted by Caliber.Az.
"As for the statements of the EU representatives and whether they can change anything, I think that from a practical point of view, all these statements are meaningless. They say some words of support at the level of political statements, they try to flatter the Armenian public, and they try to show that they are on Armenia's side, but their real actions and their real motivation are conditioned by the idea expressed by these European officials that they will not apply any sanctions against Azerbaijan because Azerbaijan is the most important partner for them, especially in the field of energy, which is much more important for them than the so-called 'democracy'.
Strange as it may sound, there is not much the EU can do. I can't say that they've done all they can, but they have their own particular interest, which we've already talked about. It should be made clear that its instruments are not very big. In fact, the EU is excluded from the process of shaping the new world order, at least it is not in the top three or four. The EU should be helped already today, because in the conditions of today's geopolitical processes, at this stage of formation of a new world order, when the old one has collapsed and the new one has not yet formed, and the world is in the midst of major crises, including the war in Ukraine, I think that Europe itself is in a rather serious crisis," the political technologist said.
