Minister: Türkiye, Azerbaijan strengthening global energy security
Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar has highlighted the ongoing and future energy collaborations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, which are aimed at enhancing energy security in both Europe and globally.
Bayraktar made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He noted that Azerbaijan and Türkiye are set to embark on a new joint energy project: the construction of a power transmission line connecting Nakhchivan to Türkiye.
Bayraktar explained that the new power transmission line would further strengthen the robust energy partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
“We continue to implement strategically important projects that not only increase energy security for Europe but also contribute to global gas and energy supply. Through major pipeline projects like Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, and TANAP, Türkiye and Azerbaijan are making vital contributions to global oil supply and energy security,” Bayraktar said.
The new transmission line, which is a vital component of the continued energy collaboration between the two countries, underscores their shared commitment to securing and diversifying energy resources while reinforcing their strong bilateral relations. Bayraktar also noted that these projects exemplify the unbreakable ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye and their shared vision for energy security.
In a historic moment for regional cooperation, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan joined forces virtually for the grand unveiling of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline.
The two leaders participated in the opening ceremony via video link, marking yet another milestone in the enduring partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
President Aliyev’s arrival in Ankara on March 5 set the stage for this significant occasion.
Welcomed with full honours at Esenboğa Airport, the Azerbaijani leader was greeted by a guard of honour, with Türkiye’s Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek and other high-ranking officials on hand to extend their warm and respectful greetings.
