Erdoğan offers Türkiye as mediator between Iran, US
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has offered Türkiye as a potential mediator between Iran and the United States, stressing the country’s readiness to help reduce regional tensions and resolve disputes.
In a telephone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Erdoğan highlighted Türkiye’s willingness to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington. The discussion also touched on bilateral relations and escalating military tensions in the region, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Erdoğan additionally announced that he would meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who is visiting Türkiye on January 30, for talks aimed at further strengthening cooperation.
Araghchi arrived in Istanbul earlier on January 30 for a one-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and discussing regional and international developments.
The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions, as the US considers possible targeted strikes against Iranian security officials amid Tehran’s crackdown on protests. US military presence in the Middle East has also increased, while Iran has warned that any miscalculation could provoke a swift retaliatory response.
