Russia, Egypt call for immediate ceasefire in Middle East
Russia and Egypt have called for an immediate halt to hostilities in the Middle East and a return to political and diplomatic processes, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference.
Following talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, Lavrov noted Russia and Egypt’s shared commitment to continue close coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Russian FM said they paid particular attention to the most acute crisis of the current period — the unprecedented escalation in the Persian Gulf resulting from unprovoked aggression by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Both Russia and Egypt call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to the political-diplomatic process to resolve existing differences while safeguarding the security interests of all states in the region, including our friendly Arab countries of the Gulf, as well as Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and, of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Lavrov added.
