Russia warns it may retaliate against three NATO countries
Russia has signalled that it may take retaliatory measures against Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, following recent diplomatic actions.
Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky said that Moscow is responding to what it describes as “hostile measures” taken on December 30, 2025, when Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia summoned Russian diplomats over new regulations affecting the operation of Russian embassies, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“The heads of the diplomatic missions were informed that the Russian side reserves the right to take specific countermeasures,” Lyubinsky said.
The Baltic states’ foreign ministries had protested against the measures, which sought to regulate the administrative and operational activities of Russian diplomatic missions in their countries.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry denied reports about the elimination of the EU ambassador’s post in Moscow. Russia is not considering the introduction of unusual or non-standard forms of EU diplomatic representation in Moscow and does not plan to initiate their closure on its own.
This was stated by Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the European Affairs Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry. He also noted that Moscow will shape further mechanisms for cooperation with the European Union based on its own interests.
Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO is preparing for a conflict with Russia.
