Armenian speaker backs possible Pashinyan third term in 2031
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has said he considers it “normal” for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to be nominated for a third term in office.
Simonyan made the remarks while speaking to journalists at a polling station in Yerevan during the parliamentary elections, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He also said he expects a similar scenario in 2031, stressing that such a development would be in line with current legislation.
Simonyan referred to political practice in other countries, citing former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, as well as former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former UK prime ministers Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair, who were re-elected on multiple occasions.
Parliamentary elections are being held in Armenia today.
